Off the Beaten Tracks

The tracks (old and new) worth a listen this week…
Florence + the Machine – How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful
She’s ba-ack!! Unfortunately the song is just one long intro, with a video of her fondling herself in a Mexican amphitheatre, but that appears to be all some fans can handle at the moment. “It’s just an intro  and I’ve already shitted my pants …. twice” laments one YouTuber. Another declares: “IT’S HAPPENING!!! EVERYONE STAY CALM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” We’ll try. I look forward to an actual song, no one does quasi-mystical quirk with lung busting vocals like Florence.
The Unthanks – Flutter
Intriguing single from the Northumbrian folk band.
Heinrich Ignaz Franz von Biber – Mystery (Rosary) Passacaglia in G Minor
Austrian violinist and composer, active in the 1600s, created music for violins that still sounds experimental today.
Nikki Lane – Right Time
South Carolina native has a new album out of alt-country produced by Dan Auerbach. This is the cheeky opener to All or Nothin’.
Panda Bear – Mr Noah
Arresting, singular tune from the experimental American’s fifth album, Panda Bear Meets the Grim Reaper.
