Tracks you may or may not know, old and new across genres for your ears’ delectation.
MO – Say You’ll Be There. Spice Girls cover from alt-pop firecracker whose debut album No Mythologies To Follow, out 10th March, I’ve been waiting for since seeing her at Latitude last July.
Bobby Bland – Ain’t No Love in the Heart of the City. Tasty old school soul track.
Arctic Monkeys – I Wanna Be Yours. Not exactly off the beaten track since it is from one of the biggest albums of the moment but deserves inclusion for its sweet melody and lyrics by punk poet John Cooper Clarke. The closing three tracks on AM are all standout on a standout album: Snap Out Of It is a propulsive stomp and the iridescent Knee Socks sends you to a different place.
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds – Spell. Magical.
Patrick Topaloff – Ou Est Ma Chemise Grise. French version of You’re The One That I Want from Grease. Bien sur.
Electric Wave Bureau – Colours. Another of Damon Albarn’s many projects. Nice voice.
Young Fathers – Get Up. Scottish hip hop that’s better than it has any right to be.
