Damon Albarn “Everyday Robots”

Damon Albarn “Everyday Robots”

Damon is only now releasing his debut solo album (unbelievably) and it is led by this title single. I’m finding the sparse eerie strings have been seeping into my consciousness via 6music. It’s subtly addictive. The video is cool too, if slightly creepy.

The album is due April 28. The Culture Show did a special on him this week (BBC Two, Tuesday, 10pm) which showed him sweet and nervous about his tracks’ reception at Sundance and leading the camera to his childhood homes. Near one of them, in Essex, he had had a pet tree which had mysteriously gained a pentagram around its roots when he showed it to his Mum. Spooky.

I’ve loved Damon since childhood and still do: he’s a hot man with a restless, wandering creativity and a life humbly devoted to music. I hope the album does well.
